HISTORY OF GWALIOR


The Gwalior Gharana evolved during the time of the Mughal Empire (1526CE – 1857 CE). Among the early masters (ustad ) were Naththan Khan, Naththan Pir Bakhsh and his grandsons Haddu , Hassu and Natthu khan.The head musician in the imperial court was Bade Mohammad Khan, who was famous for his taan bazi style Both Bade Mohammad Khan and naththan Pir Bakhsh belonged to the same tradition of Shahi Sadarang (also known as Nemat Khan, dhrupad singer and veena player in the court of Mohammad Shah (1702 CE – 1748 CE).

Miyan Tansen


Miyan Tansen (c. 1493/1500 – 26 April 1589), also referred to and commonly known as Sangeet Samrat (lit.' Monarch of Music') or Mian (lit.' the Learned One') was a Hindustani classical musician. Born in a Hindu Gaur Brahmin family, he learnt and perfected his art in the northwest region of modern Madhya Pradesh. He began his career and spent most of his adult life in the court and patronage of the Hindu king of Rewa, Raja Ramchandra Singh (r.1555–1592), where Tansen's musical abilities and studies gained widespread fame .This reputation brought him to the attention of the Mughal Emperor Mohammad Akbar, who sent messengers to Raja Ramchandra Singh, requesting Tansen to join the musicians at the Mughal court. Tansen did not want to go, but Raja Ramchandra Singh encouraged him to gain a wider audience, and sent him along with gifts to Akbar. In 1562, about the age of 60, the Vaishnava musician Tansen joined the Akbar's court, and his performances became a subject of many court historians.


MEET BROS

Meet Bros is an Indian musical duo from Gwalior, Madhya Pradesh. The duo consists of brothers Manmeet Singh and Harmeet Singh. They were formerly known as Meet Bros Anjjan with longtime collaborator Anjjan Bhattacharya.

Meet Brothers worked as a music director in Bollywood. Many years ago, they met Anjjan Bhattacharya in a program and the three decided to work together and they named their trio as Meet Bros Anjjan. The three together made music for many songs and gave their voices. They made the song "Baby Doll", which they sang with Kanika Kapoor in the 2014 film Ragini MMS 2. In 2015, Anjjan Bhattacharya got separated from the trio and started his own music business. Meet Bros also opened their own recording studio named "Meet Bros Recording Studio".

"Pink Lips", "Hangover", "Party To Banti Hai", "Chittiyaan Kalaiyaan" were their songs. They both also hold concerts and take part in the concert. They have received the Filmfare Awards for their music.


Usha Khanna


Born in Gwalior, her father, Manohar Khanna, was a lyricist and singer, working as Assistant Superintendent in the Water Works Department in the then Gwalior State. When he came to Bombay (now Mumbai) for some work in 1946 he by chance met Jaddanbai who was mother of Hindi film actress Nargis Dutt. On her request he started writing gazals for Hindi films by the name, Jaaved Anwar. He was getting a monthly salary of Rs. 250 in Gwalior State and Jaddanabi offered him Rs. 800 for 3 gazals which he wrote for Jaddanbai's Nargis Art Productions film, Romeo Juliet.

Usha Khanna is an Indian music director in Hindi cinema. After Jaddan Bai & Saraswati Devi she is the third female music director of Hindi cinema.

She is one of the most successful music director to enter the male dominated industry. She is well known for her songs like “maine rakha hai mohabbat”, “Hum tum say juda ho ke”, “gaa deewane jhoom ke”, “Chhodo kal ki baatein”, “Shaayad meri shaadi ka khayal”, and “tu is tarah Se meri zindagi”


Piyush Mishra


Mishra was born on 13 January 1963 in a Brahmin family in Gwalior to Pratap Kumar Sharma. He grew up as Priyakant Sharma and was adopted by his father's eldest sister Taradevi Mishra, who had no children. Later, his family moved into his aunt's house to ease financial burden. His parents admitted him to Carmel Convent School, Gwalior thinking that his education in a convent will help him excel in academics but it was activities like singing, painting and acting which appealed to him. Piyush later moved to Gwalior's JC Mills Higher Secondary School


Piyush Mishra


Piyush Mishra, is an Indian film actor, music director ,lyricist, singer, script and dialogue writer, and a well known theatre director and Hindi playwright. He spent his early life in Gwalior, where he received his education.

Theater and television After his graduation from National School of Drama (NSD), New Delhi in 1986, Piyush Mishra started his career as a theatre actor and went on to write and directed several plays as a part of Act-1 Group (1990-1995). In 1996 he joined Asmita Theatre Group, and performed his Popular one man shows An Evening with Piyush Mishra. He wrote the lyrics for Asmita's popular plays.
